Investigators said the four had gone to the Cracker Barrel to celebrate Kerri's birthday. According to a 911 call made by Kate Allen, she and Kevin Allen arrived at the restaurant separately.

Police said Kate Allen made the 911 call at 8:40 p.m. from the restaurant. She told police she had just informed her husband that she was leaving him and he was not taking it well. Kate Allen told dispatchers she was afraid her husband may become violent and that he was circling the restaurant parking lot.

Kate Allen told the dispatchers her husband once had a shotgun but said he told her he had done away with it. But she also added she had seen shotgun shells on him.

Witnesses said Kevin Allen entered the restaurant carrying a long gun and began selectively firing at his wife and daughters at close range. No one else in the restaurant was injured.

Police heard gunshots when they arrived and encountered Kevin Allen as he left the restaurant. When he refused demands to drop the weapon officers opened fire. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police records show Kevin Allen has previous arrests for domestic violence in Kirtland, Ohio, in 1995 as well as burglary and theft in North Royalton, Ohio, in 2008.

The restaurant will remain closed until the investigation is completed, Cracker Barrel spokeswoman Julie Davis said in an email from corporate offices in Lebanon, Tenn.

"This appears to be the result of a domestic dispute between two guests and no Cracker Barrel employees were involved," she said.
